This concert is presented as part of our Tradition Lives series, through which we wish to bring out the beauty of diverse patantaras as transmitted across generations. Thenuga and Mathuriga represent the rich musical lineage of the Karaikudi Veenai Brothers. The legacy of this tradition has been preserved and enriched by successive generations of disciples, most notably the prime disciples of Karaikudi Veenai Sambasiva Iyer, Ranganayaki Rajagopalan and Rajeswari Padmanabhan, and his adopted son, Karaikudi S. Subramanian.
At Brhaddhvani, we are committed to supporting emerging artists. We are grateful to vidushi Ramani Narayanan - disciple of Ranganayaki Rajagopalan and R. Vedavalli - and vainika Dr. L. Ramakrishnan for their encouragement and support of this initiative.
“A musical tradition lives through simplicity, devotion to the art, and reverence for those who preserve and enrich it beyond all distinctions. It flourishes in those who surrender themselves to music with humility, integrity and an unceasing pursuit of excellence. There is fulfillment in just doing it!” - Karaikudi S. Subramanian
